Gov. Robert Bentley underwent surgery in Tuscaloosa Tuesday for what his office called minor hernia repair.
A statement from the governor’s office said the procedure was performed laproscopically and was a success. The governor, who turned 70 in February, is expected to return to a working schedule in the next 24 hours. Bentley opted to schedule the surgery prior to a planned economic development trip to Japan, according to his office.
A follow-up call to the Governor’s office was not immediately returned.
Bentley served two terms in the Alabama House of Representatives before being elected governor in 2010. He will seek re-election next year.
