Three Republicans, No Democrats qualify to run for Love’s seat


Three Republicans qualified to run for the seat in the Alabama House of Representatives vacated when Rep. Jay Love resigned on Aug. 1.

No Democrats qualified to run for the District 74 seat, according to Alabama Democratic Party acting chairwoman Nancy Worley. Current state Rep. Joe Hubbard, D-Montgomery, had expressed interest in running, although there was some question about whether he would meet the residency requirements.HD74RCandidatesFotor

Former Montgomery County Board of Education president Charlotte Meadows, Montgomery County Commissioner Dimitri Polizos and Montgomery County Board of Education vice president Heather Sellers all qualified with the Alabama Republican Party to run.

The primary will be on Oct. 8. If one candidate does not secure a majority of the vote, there will be a runoff on Nov. 19.

District 74 encompasses most of north-central Montgomery between I-85 and Northern Boulevard.
