Powerful former state Sen. Lowell Barron has been arrested, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
Barron, a Fyffe Democrat who just turned 70, is listed on the office’s web site as an active inmate and was listed as being arrested about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office
The web site does not include any details about the charges, but indicates he faces six counts.
The office of Attorney General Luther Strange has yet to comment or release any information on the arrest.
Barron, who lost to political newcomer Shad McGill in the 2010 election, served two terms as president pro tem of the Senate and served as chairman of the powerful Rules Committee during his last term.
