House Speaker Mike Hubbard has appointed Rep. Lynn Greer, R-Rogersville, as chairman of the House Transportation, Utilities and Infrastructure committee, and has moved several freshman representatives into other committee vice-chairmanships.
Greer, owner of Greer Construction in Rogersville, is serving his fourth term in the state House. He first served from 1974 to 1981, and then again from 2002 to 2006. Greer served on the Alabama Public Service Commission from 1981 to 1990.
“Whether it be working with the Department of Transportation to build or repair roads or making other key infrastructure decisions that are vital to our economic development, Rep. Greer is a highly respected member and I have no doubt that he will be up to the challenge of the tough choices this committee requires,” Hubbard said in a statement.
The Speaker also appointed Rep. Allen Farley, R-McCalla, as vice-chairman of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee. Farley had a 36 year career in law enforcement, including seven years as assistant Jefferson County Sheriff.
Rep. Barry Moore, R-Enterprise, owner of a waste hauling company, was appointed vice-chairman of the House Small Business and Commerce committee. Bill Roberts, R-Jasper, who worked for years as a human resources vice president and served as the assistant State Commissioner for Labor from 1972 to 1976, will serve as vice-chairman of the House Committee on Boards, Agencies and Commissions.
Farley, Moore and Roberts are all serving their first terms in the House.
Rep. Jay Love, R-Montgomery, remains chairman of the House Ways and Means Education committee.
