ASU senior Edmond Davis named to All-American team

Alabama State center Edmond Davis was selected to College Sports Network’s All-American team as an honorable mention selection.

Davis, a fifth-year senior who starred at G.W. Carver High, worked his way into the starting lineup as a freshman and never left despite constant injuries late in his junior year that threatened to derail him.

Davis was the undisputed leader of the offensive unit and may be the toughest Hornet to replace among a unit that lost big-play stars Isaiah Crowell and Jamel Johnson and dependable tight end Justin Robinson. Davis (and Robinson) was part of an offensive line that allowed Crowell, Malcolm Cyrus and other ASU backs to run for 2,836 yards, which led the Southwestern Athletic Conference and ranked 14th nationally among Football Championship Subdivision (I-AA) teams.

This is the fifth post-season award for Davis, who was a first-team all-SWAC selection and was selected to All-American teams by the Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) and Boxtorow.
