Washington ends Hornet volleyball season

Washington took care of Alabama State in quick fashion, eliminating the Hornets in three sets on Friday night in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Washington, the nation’s No. 3 seed, improved to 12-0 in first-round games under coach McLaughlin.

Alabama State was as close as 10-7 in the first set before Washington exploded to win 25-11. The second set was never a contest, with Washington jumping out to an 11-2 lead and cruising to a 25-5 victory. In the third set, ASU jumped out to a 2-0 lead but Washington quickly got back on top. The Lady Hornets closed to within 21-16 before Washington scored the last four points.

Washington will play LSU, which rallied to beat Michigan in five sets, on Saturday at 9 p.m.
