Hornets aim ticket sales at families

Give Alabama State’s ticket department a little credit for devising a family plan to fill up the new football stadium.

Orienting your football ticket packages toward the entire family is nothing new, but keeping anything at a reasonable price in today’s world is difficult. But ASU will not only sell you a ticket plan for $100, they’ll throw in an entire meal as well.

Season tickets went on sale earlier this month for the 2013 season, the Hornets’ first full season inside the new stadium. Alabama State opens the season on Aug. 31 at home against Jacksonville State, the second game in the facility after closing out the 2012 season with the Turkey Day Classic to mark the stadium’s debut.

“This is both an exciting and historic season for ASU,” interim athletic director Melvin Hines said. “Not only do we have a great schedule of football for our fans, we also will be playing our six home games for the first time in the new ASU stadium.”

Part of the push to market the on-campus stadium is a drive to bring in entire families for a Saturday afternoon of food and entertainment. Oh, and Reggie Barlow will throw in a football game as well.

“We wanted to make the games a family experience,” Hines said. “We got such an enthusiastic response to the Kidz Fun Zone that was part of the Black and Gold Game that we decided to bring it back. We also will have special family packages so that everyone can come out and have a good time on game days.”

The Family Fun Pack includes tickets for seating in section 129 of the stadium, hot dogs, drinks and popcorn for four people at a special price of $100. “We’re also going to include a Surprise Pack with each of the family packages. The contents of the ‘pack’ will be different for each game.”

And, of course, each game will feature tailgating, the Vendor Village and other exciting activities.

“Now that football has come home to ASU, we are able to enhance the game-day experience for our fans,” Hines said. “The university is ready to welcome everyone to campus and to ‘Our House’ this season.”
